What is Garden Design?
Good gardens don’t just happen – a great deal of time, skill and knowledge goes into creating the best outdoor spaces.
Designing your own garden can be quite challenging as gardens involve a significant investment in time, money and emotion; however a well-designed garden will repay your investment by providing countless hours of enjoyment, while also significantly increasing the appeal of your property.
Getting started can be daunting, however the good news is you probably know more than you think. Our job is to draw out your knowledge and desires for your garden and demystify the process, assisting you to make the right choices for your space. We believe it’s important to match the design to the family or individual, and to give you the opportunity to influence how that outdoor space takes shape over time.
Some of the basic questions we can help with are:
- What plants to choose and where should they go?
- What materials are best suited to the style of garden you are after?
- How much, if any, work can you do yourself?
- How much help do you need designing a garden or do you get a professional in?
- What is it all likely to cost?
Still wanting to get your hands dirty?
To assist you we offer a basic design consultation which will provide clear guidance for you to help you decide where to go next.
A consultation is designed to assist either the do-it-yourself gardener as well as people requiring a little more help. The information you receive during a consultation will allow you to get started on your own garden design and hold informed discussions with any landscapers or other trades people employed in the construction of your outdoor space.
The consultation begins with a pre-visit questionnaire we send you to ensure that when we arrive at your house we have a good understanding of what your space is like now, and what you might like it to be.
The design consultation covers all the basic things you need to begin. It includes:
- Up to a two hour onsite visit by a qualified landscape architect.
- Ideas discussion to help you refine your approach.
- Basic site analysis, to identify features, opportunities and constraints of your garden space that will assist you in laying out your garden.
- Expert design ideas for your garden.
- A post-analysis discussion to help you refine your approach to design.
Choosing appropriate quantities and types of plants and materials can be tough and costly to get wrong. Matching the maintenance needs of your new garden to your tastes and available time can ensure a manageable space that doesn’t compromise on beauty or function. Getting some expert advice early on in your design process can save a great deal of time, money and heartache over the long term.
If you decide on a garden consultation there is no obligation to take up our design service, hopefully you will have all the information you need. If you do decide you would like us to design your garden we are happy to reduce the design by the cost of the consultation.

If you’re selling your home we can help.
We have developed a Presale Property Consultation package designed to help you prepare your property to look its best for prospective buyers. Well-landscaped gardens can add value to your property and while garden maintenance is important, style and character are also vital to how your home is perceived by prospective buyers.
Ensuring your garden matches and enhances the appearance of your home can lead to a seamless and unified impression of your property. Updated landscaping creates a great first impression for your home when buyers come to view your property and can also create an emotional connection, encouraging buyers to imagine themselves living in the property.
Outdated, ill maintained or high maintenance gardens can distract and take away from an otherwise wonderful property. This can create barriers for potential buyers and can delay the sale or even reduce the sale price.
We take an objective view of your garden in relation to helping get it ready to sell. We understand that everyone’s tastes are different, and while you can’t please everyone it’s important to have your garden appeal to as many prospective buyers as possible.
We identify your properties main features and selling points and let you know of any elements that may be seen as drawbacks for potential buyers and how you could rectify these. Sometimes only simple interventions can often reinvigorate an entire garden. As qualified landscape architects and designers we have a knack for creative solutions and will be on the lookout for simple cost effective solutions for you.
Our Presale Consultation Package includes:
- Up to one and a half hours onsite visit with a qualified landscape architect.
- Extended ideas discussion to help you refine your approach to your garden.
- Basic site analysis, to identify features, opportunities and constraints of your garden space that will assist you in readying your property for sale.
